Two new vinyl releases have been added to the shop: the irr. app. (ext.) 1-sided LP + 1-sided 7″ set ‘The Other Side Is Blank‘ (a dream-inspired tribute to the music of David Jackman & Organum) and the irr. app. (ext.) & At Jennie Richie collaborative LP ‘Night Wearing Feathers‘. Both are available in limited quantities — particularly ‘Blank’, the entire edition of which is limited to 100 and has already mostly sold out through the label’s website. Plenty more is underway, and details will be posted as soon as they are available.

The dream-inspired project ‘The Other Side Is Blank‘ has finally arrived blinking and yawning into the full light of the waking world. The estimable Equation Records has done a bang-up job serving as midwife for this lopsided creature, and huge thanks are directed their way. The package consists of  a 1-sided LP and a 1-sided 7″ (titled ‘Skirr’); a screen-printed, fold-over LP cover with blue & black drawings taken directly from the record in the dream; 4 inserts with plenty of artwork & information; and a fold-over 7″ cover with a signed teeth-print on the inside. Several collage pieces done in the classic Organum style are scattered throughout. The edition is limited to 100 copies.

I’ll soon have some copies listed in the shop, but the bulk of the edition is available from the label’s website here. Equation is selling them as a pre-order, as they will not be able to ship them until the end of the April. My copies are on hand but I’ll only have 12 or so to sell; between the two of us we should hopefully be able to provide a copy for anyone who wants one. I’ll post an announcement when the listing is ready.

“In a mostly deserted indoor shopping mall (the kind that used to be everywhere in California) I’m looking for a shop where David Jackman is supposed to be doing a … lecture? Or maybe a performance? When I find the room, it looks like a classroom at a community college. Mr. Jackman is already there. Apparently the few photos I’ve seen of him are all wrong: he’s actually an elderly Amish fellow, with a stereotypically Amish-looking white beard (sans moustache) and looking the very picture of style in an Irish tweed suit and cloth cap. Whatever else was supposed to be happening is instantly forgotten when I spot a large fold-out table against the wall piled high with new Organum LPs. All the albums have white sleeves with hand-drawn covers and hand-written text, and somehow I know that all of the LPs inside are one-sided. Everything is very reasonably priced and I waste no time grabbing as many of the gorgeous little darlings as I can carry. The cover of the one on the top of my pile has a stylised bear’s head drawn in blue and black ink on the front, and a similarly rendered fox (with overlarge ears and an oddly-proportioned body) on the back. The title, or perhaps just an explanation, is handwritten on the front: ‘The Other Side Is Blank’.”

It frustrates and angers me beyond expression to have to watch yet another essential public service be destroyed, just so a load of degraded sociopaths that already have more money than they can use will be able to line their pockets with even more. Health care and most public transit systems are already down the toilet, and the postal system is lined up to follow. It’s perfectly clear how much harm to the public with be inflicted as a result, but nothing is being done to remedy it; yet more proof (in any were needed) that this country has hardly anything to do with any real notion of a democratic system.

I’m not yet sure how I should handle this problem. I certainly can’t blame UK & European customers for not wanting to pay double the cost for everything (I wouldn’t be able to afford it, myself).

Several new irr. releases are very close to completion after a long, slow crawl to the finish line: all materials for the irr. + AJR LP & cassette box set have been submitted and put into production, the dream-inspired Organum tribute ‘The Other Side Is Blank’ is a hair’s breadth away from readiness, and the third irr + BSBC album should be ready at any moment. A cassette for Merz Tapes is underway and restoration work on the never-actually-released 2nd irr. album ‘Foreign Matter, Nor Frequency Carrier’ continues.

Starting today, At Jennie Richie, video artist Eriijk Ressler and myself have launched Nine Day Antler Society: a collective multi-media project existing within the online forum Seven Gallery (and Discount Rug Outlet). On the 1st and 15th of every month each of us will be posting a new contribution to the forum, which will be viewable for exactly one month before it is replaced by subsequent contributions. The first round of contributions is now open to public scrutiny, including a new and exclusive irr. track ‘Versifole Spectrograffe Marzipan Antler #1′. Future postings will include more new pieces, unreleased archival tracks and unusual raw source material.

In order to complete the West Coast chain, we are looking for an additional contributor located in each of these territories: British Columbia, Alaska and Baja California (North and/or South).

Also, two earlier Carnacki titles have been restocked: ‘The Disappearance Of This Terrible Spool’ EP and the extremely limited ‘No Reserve’ 3″ — the latter being the final copies available before it goes out-of-print.

I’ve made some changes to the pricing configuration in the shop and added some extra buttons for different shipping options. The individual item price before postage is now indicated in each listing for greater clarity, while the buttons still include the total cost with shipping (the site parameters don’t allow me to have postage figured separately in the cart). For items less than 13 ounces, the buttons for U.S. shipping are now also valid for Canada, as I discovered that First Class shipping rates to Canada are very close to First Class + delivery confirmation in the States. For heavier items (LPs), a separate button for Canada has been added. For items weighing over 13 ounces I’ve also added a Media Mail button for the U.S. since Priority rates are so expensive now (much to my surprise, they are even more expensive than First Class rates to Canada for the same weight! That seems a bit odd). Media Mail is slower but MUCH less expensive, and delivery confirmation is always added so the package can be traced.

All prices have been adjusted to reflect recent changes in postal fees — particularly international rates, which were raised a few weeks ago. My sincere apologies to overseas buyers for the ridiculously steep shipping rates they have to deal with, which continue to grow more ridiculous every year.

New Items:

During the past couple months I’ve received stock on a number of records, and while adding them to the shop I took the opportunity to add some other things that have been hanging around in small quantities for a long time, but I could never be bothered to list before.

‘Kreiselwelle’ (the third part of the ‘Orgonosis’ series) has been added to the CD section, so now all 4 installments in that series are available in the shop. A NWW-related compilation, ‘Destroying The Night Sky’ has also been added to the CDs: this is a collection of drastic remixes of Cadaverous Condition tracks by guests such as Nurse With Wound, Colin Potter and Andrew Liles, as well as many other recognisable names in the experimental field.

In the vinyl department, I’ve added the irr/BSBC collaborative LP ‘Skeletal Copula Remains’, the At Jennie Richie 1-sided LP ‘Rectums Merging’ (which has an insert with text & illustration by me) and the BSBC ‘Untitled’ white vinyl LP from 2008 (on one side of which some irr. sources were utilised). I’ve also found a few lingering vinyl copies of the Nurse With Wound/irr. app. (ext.) collaboration ‘Angry Eelectric Finger 3: Mute Bell Extinction Process’.

One tiny treasure has been added to the cassettes: a couple scarce copies of a long out-of-print collaboration between At Jennie Richie and Red Squirrels (‘RSAJR’) that were discovered at the bottom of a drawer. On this release, AJR integrated some irr. source material in its contribution to the outcome. Both projects have created a series of fascinating but hard-to-find releases on their own, and it’s worthwhile to hear how their minds intersected.

Upcoming:

Sound & packaging for a 3-inch CDR release on the Petit Mal label (titled ‘Neognath In Machina’) has been submitted and should be available in late March or early April. A track for a compilation curated by the Chestnut Tree programme in Houston has also recently been delivered. Work on a collaborative gang-up between irr., BSBC and The New Blockaders is underway. An irr./At Jennie Richie collaboration will be released on vinyl as soon as I get the artwork figured out, and a split irr./AJR cassette should be materialising before too long as well. Work cleaning up the archives continues, and, on a related note, I’m preparing an exhaustively thorough irr. app. (ext.) discography for this site — as much for my own easy reference as for any other reason, although it will also be nice to clarify a lot of the garbled information floating around on the internet. Details will be posted as soon as I have them.
